V+A+C+A+T+I+O+N=FEAR

So, after my exciting weekend last weekend, I have to admit that I am super nervous about this weekend.

Usually I am pumped for vacations, which for us, usually mean a road trip to visit family - at their houses. It's familiar.

However, this weekend will be different. On Friday our family will be heading up to a hotel/casino/resort for a family reunion. Honestly, the thought staying in a hotel and eating out for 4 days scares me. Alot! I have worked hard and don't want to go backwards. Even "healthy" choices at restaurants have way more sodium (and even calories) than something comparable from my kitchen. But, I don't want to be a downer either. This is the first time my kids will be at a hotel or have ever enjoyed a weekend like this.

How can I be successful this weekend? Help friends! What do you do to make the most out of your vacations without going backward?

  1. Oh ny gosh, you totally got this. Go for salads with dressing on the side. Open-face sandwitches. Steamed veggies and grilled/baked meat (chicken/fish).

Sometimes I fudge it and say I have an 'allergy' if I want things prepared a certain way. I.e. "I'm allergic to butter so please cook my veggies with no butter."

Bring your walking shoes and explore the resort. Keep moving - do stretches/yoga/exercise TV in your room, or hit up the gym. Most hotels have atleast a piece or two of equipment!

Remember - your weight-loss journey isn't about living in your perfectly controlled environment, it's about developing tools for LIFE. Life will include vacations - so this is just a practice for upcoming "real life" experiences. YOU TOTALLY GOT THIS. Look how awesome you've done! I have 100% faith you will continue to ROCK IT!!! :)

  2. Well, Ann pretty much covered it all. Don't stress so much that you don't have fun. :)

  3. Also, drink a LOT more water. It will help with the increased sodium and make sure that it doesn't derail you too much.

I always struggle drinking enough on vacation and it doesn't help with healthy eating to feel dehydrated!
